The Needles Lighthouse

2 Hour Needles Sightseeing Trips

Private charter trips for close up views of the famous Needles lighthouse and Alum bay coloured sands.

Available by arrangement from April to November on any day that we're not already booked on fishing trips.

These trips are not available during the mackerel season (July 22nd to September 1st), please take a look at the 3 hour mackerel fishing page if you would like to charter a boat for a trip during these dates.

Taking people on fishing trips is obviously our main business but we do get times when we're not so busy especially early and late season so if fishing isn't your thing and you'd prefer to have a private charter sightseeing trip just for your family or group of friends please do contact us to see if we can arrange a trip for you.

Available days during July = 2nd,3rd,9th

Available days during September = 2nd,3rd,4th,12th,13th,29th,30th

Departing from Keyhaven on board Osprey II our sightseeing trip takes you slowly down the river then out into the Solent passing close to Hurst Castle before following the main shipping channel out to the Needles for some great close up views of the famous rocks and lighthouse, if the sea conditions are suitable we will then venture a little further past the Needles and into Scratchells bay with views of the former rocket testing site high up on the white cliffs that stretch along this part of the Isle of Wight into Freshwater bay.

From there we will return round the Needles once again and follow the foot of the cliffs into Alum bay with it's famous coloured sand cliffs, after leaving Alum bay it is a slow gentle cruise along the island shore taking in the sights through Totland bay, Colwell bay and passing close to Fort Albert and Fort Victoria before crossing the Solent once again back into Keyhaven.

For the birdwatchers there are usually plenty of different species to see from the waders in the river to the Cormorants and various Gulls on the Needles rocks and sometimes Gannets and Terns can be seen feeding. Over the last few years Dolphin sightings around the Needles area have become more common than ever before, obviously we can't guarantee that you'll see one but keep your eyes peeled and you never know you may just get lucky.

There are no snacks or refreshments to buy on board the boat but you are very welcome to bring your own along to make yourselves a picnic at sea.

Please read this red bit

These sightseeing trips can only be booked for the days that we're not already booked on fishing trips so this is more likely to be during April, May, September and October. In June and July the available days may be very limited but please do contact us and if we can fit a trip in for you we will. During the school summer holidays Osprey II is kept busy running mackerel trips every day so at the moment these sightseeing trips are not available between July 22nd and September 1st.

These trips are subject to the weather and sea conditions being suitable for us to take you out to the Needles in complete safety, we want you to enjoy your trip out on the boat so when you make your booking you will be asked to phone us at 7.00pm the night before your trip to confirm the marine weather forecast and sea conditions are suitable for your trip to go ahead. Hopefully all will be fine but if the conditions are not suitable to take you to the Needles we will let you know your options when you phone us the night before your trip. Options may include a shorter trip staying in the Solent, rearranging your trip for another day or time (if possible) or cancelling your booking and refunding any deposit paid, whichever you prefer.

For availability and bookings please phone

01425 612896 (9am ~9pm)

If we are not answering when you call please don't give up, try us again later in the day or after 5pm is always a good time to get us.

Text and email options can be found on the Contact us page.

Many thanks.

Greg.
